John was lucky enough to meet cycling legend Graeme Obree recently at Old Street’s trendy cycling cafe ‘Look Mum No Hands!’ He was signing his new training manual ‘The Obree Way’ and spoke for about 45 minutes about his revolutionary training techniques.
For the uninitiated, Graeme Obree twice broke the world hour record in July 1993 and April 1994, and was the individual pursuit world champion in 1993 and 1995. He was known for his rivalry with Chris Boardman and his unusual riding positions aboard ”Old Faithful” the bicycle he built which included parts from a washing machine. His remarkable life was made into a film following his book, The Flying Scotsman.
The cycling aficionados relished his stories and training tips including the new breathing technique he uses when making what he calls ‘a good effort’.
Graeme is currently in training for the human powered land speed record.
